If you want to get some financial support, you definitely need to have some communication skills as you'll probably have an interview with a potential investor.
Here are some tips how to do it well:
Let's brainstorm as many as possible types of interviews:
- job interview
- interview for a place at university/ school
-
-
-
You're going to watch a small part of a popular BBC TV program "Genius", where people present their "genius" (sometimes stupid and funny) business ideas to the jury. And the jury has to approve it OR not!
Watch it as an example for your next task.
Now take your time (3-4 minutes) and make up a genius business idea you would ask some financial support for.
Use these ideas if you want:
- smart/ convenient food/ services/ restaurants
- portable/ compact items
- new types of electronics/ transport
- smart clothes/ accessories/ jewelery
- lifehacks
- new methods of traveling
- ideas for entertainment/ pleasure/ leisure etc.
Now roleplay the situation:
Student A, you're a sponsor, listen to student's B business idea and decide if you give him/her financial support or no.
Ask about:
- the reason for starting this business
- the experience in this field
- the expectations about future business
- the business plan
- other details etc.
Student B, you're a future entrepreneur. Present your business idea to the sponsor (student A) and try to persuade him/her to give you financial support.
Think about:
- the reason for starting your business
- your experience in this field
- the expectations about future business
- the business plan
- other details etc.
Now tell other people briefly about your idea and whether you got some money or no)
