1.   What is a discussion?

  1. Do you like to discuss some interesting topics? What topics is it interesting for you to discuss?

  2. Who do you usually discuss things with? ( your parents, sister/brother, friends, teachers...)

  3. Do you often disagree in the discussion?

  4. Is it important for you to be right in the end of the discussion? Why?

  5. When was the last time you had an interesting discussion with somebody? Who was it? What did you discuss?

  6. Do you ever join discussion boards on the Internet? ( forums, comments under Youtube videos, bloggers on Instagram) Why?

  7. What are the differences between a discussion and an argument ( спор)?

Let's practice! 

One Student says his opinion about the statement. Then asks for another Student's opinion. Second student should agree or disagree with the idea and ask another student. 

 

  • Wearing uniforms at school is a good idea.

  • Teenagers should not be allowed to paint their hair in crazy colors (blue, green, purple)

  • I would like to get a tatoo in the future.

  • Teenagers shouldn't use bad language.

  • Should teenagers work? Why or why not?

  • It's better to live in the countryside than in the city.

  • Pop music is bad nowadays.

  • Schools are useless.

Let's practice!  One Student says his opinion about the statement....

Extra practice. (if there's time) 

* Teacher says her opinion about the most important thing. Students need to agree or disagree and say why or suggest another option.

*  You can use phrases: we can / we might / would / could

Forexample:

  • In my opinion number one is a radio, because we could listen to music and not be bored. I think it's important? What do you think?

  • I'm afraid I can't agree with you. I believe the most important thing would be the kettle, because we would need to cook food.

In mini groups, using zoom rooms. Or general discussion if it's not possible.

You were on the ship cruise. There was a terrible storm and your ship crashed. You are in the saving boat in the middle of the ocean. You have 15 objects with you.

Discuss together and rate the objects from the most important (1) to the least important (15). Give your reasongs. Make notes of your discussion. Be ready to tell others about your ideas.

You can use phrases: we can / we might / would / could

Forexample:

  • I suppose, number one is an antimoskito net, because we might try to catch fish with it.. I think it's important? What iis your idea?

  • I doubt it. I believe the most important thing would be chocolate. It might make us a bit happier and we wouldn't be hungry. Do you agree?
