The museum was founded by wax sculptor Marie Tussaud. Marie Tussaud was born in France and then she moved to London to organize her exhibitions. She organized her first wax exhibition in London in 1835, charging six penny for the admissions ticket. It became very popular, and in 1884 the museum was moved to the building that now houses the wax figures.
