Free= when you don’t have to pay for something

1.             Was school free in the 19th century ?

It became free when Queen Victoria decided all children should go to School.

 2 . Where did poor children go before that ?

They were sent to workhouses.

3. What do you remember about Victorian schools ?

There were 80 pupils in a classroom and teachers were very strict with unruly pupils.

     

 This comic strip is adapted from the real novel written by Charles Dickens.

In the comic strip, it’s Oliver who wants to ask for more porridge whereas in the book Oliver was chosen by the other boys.

Oliver is brave but crazy for the other boys in the comic strip.

The consequence is that Oliver is thrown out of the workhouse.
