Step 4.3 Words with the first ending of –le will engage the dropping rule. Teach students that when an --le word has two endings, the silent e is dropped when the second ending is added.
Teacher: (holding up the –ug card) “ug, ug, ug. Let’s spell the word juggling. How many endings do you hear in juggling?
Student: Two! –le and –ing!
Teacher: That’s right! Now look what happens to the silent e when we add the ing.
Using fingers for the letters, make a production of dropping the e when you add –ing.
