1. Warm up:
Think about your last New Year's Resolutions.
Choose a number, see a verb and make a sentence about 1 thing that you you've done over the last year using THE VERB GIVEN.
4. RED HERRING game.
You have 4 minutes to write down 3 promises. BUT you choose 2 goals/aims/promises that you plan to keep, and 1 RED HERING that you have no intention of keeping at all. GO!
2. Discuss:
- Why do you think people make resolutions?
- Why do you think most people fail to keep their resolutions?
3. Let's watch this excellent video by 'Because I said I would' about making New Year's promises.
While you are watching, try to write down the promises that you hear and read in the video.
What promises do you remember from the video? Would you like to promise anything like that?

5. Let's have some more fun.
Take turns to spin the wheel.
Read a New Year's resolution and share your opinion with us - would you keep it or would you rather do something else? If so, what?
EXTRA GAME:
Crappy New Year
Each of you gets a card with a present. I nominate who you should give this present to, explaining how useful that present would be. The student who is given the present should react to it.
