On the Rocks: With ice.
Up or Straight up: stirred or shaken with ice, but served without ice.
Straight: without ice, poured from the bottle
Neat (usually used to describe whiskey or brandy): A drink served at room temperature without ice or mixers. “If someone asks for a whiskey neat, they are asking for a shot straight out of the bottle.”
Dirty: If you want a lot of olive juice in your martini, ask for a really dirty one.
Dry/Wet (martini): Be prepared to let the bartender know if you what gin or vodka. Traditionally, they’re made with gin. They might also ask you if you want it dry. Dry just means they add less vermouth, which makes the drink a little more bitter. Want more vermouth? Ask for it “wet.”
