Introduction to Basic Enzymology
This class gives an overview of basic enzymology.
Introduction
In this class we will explore basic concepts in enzymology. It is suited for undergraduate Bioscience students and A-level students interested in the action of enzymes.
Enzymes are the essential components of any biochemical reaction in every living organism. People have used enzymes for many thousands of years in making bread and cheese, brewing beer and wine and to preserve food, but they didn't know about enzymes. Only in the last hundred years or so we have begun to understand, how enzymes actually work and what they are.

Modules
In this module we will explore the nature of enzymes, what they are and why theya re so important.
In this module we will explore the concept of enzyme specificity. We will also look at the way enzymes react to pH and temperature
In this module we will explore the Michaelis Menten equation - THE equation that describes mathematically the behaviour of an enzyme.
In this module we will discuss two graphic approaches to determine the key parameters of an enzyme. We will look at a Lineweaver-Burke plot (double reciprocal) and an Eadie-Hofstee plot.
In this module we will look at reversible enzyme inhibitors, how they work and how they affect the key enzyme parameters.
In this module we will discuss, how enzymes can be regulated.
